Partnership for Public Service Applauds Senator Akaka's Efforts to Address Government Effectiveness
Washington, D.C. -- The Partnership for Public Service today released the following statement in support of Senator Akaka's Federal Supervisor Training Act:
"The Partnership for Public Service is pleased to support Senator Akaka's legislation to establish and authorize funding for federal supervisor training programs and to ensure that all federal managers meet a core set of competencies. It is a simple truth that well-trained, competent managers enable employees to perform at their best.
Senator Akaka cares about government effectiveness and he cares about government employees. His bill helps both. Ensuring that federal supervisors have the training and skills needed to manage employee performance is critical to creating the kind of workplace that achieves results for the American people.
Training and preparing federal supervisors to manage effectively will require a significant investment of time and resources in agencies and in the Office of Personnel Management. Given the size of the federal workforce and its management corps, this price tag will not be cheap, but it is an investment that will more than pay for itself over time. During the course of a career, a single federal employee can amount to a million- or even multi-million dollar investment for the federal government. It only makes sense that we spend as much time ensuring the success of that investment as we do for IT networks, financial management systems, or similar tools designed to improve government efficiency, accountability and performance.
The Partnership for Public Service commends Senator Akaka's leadership and efforts at this critical time, as well as his ongoing commitment to government effectiveness and government employees. "
