Dear Fellow Hawaii Attorney:

On September 23, 2006, we will have an opportunity to vote in the Democratic primary for United States Senator. In these critical times, our choice will have direct impact on the future direction of our state and our nation, and we will need a wise and experienced leader to guide us. After carefully considering our choices, we believe that Hawai??€˜i should return Senator Daniel Akaka to the United States Senate so that he can continue his distinguished service in Washington D.C.

As attorneys, we are particularly mindful of choosing courageous leaders who embrace the concepts of justice and fairness. In his thirty years in Congress, Dan Akaka has demonstrated time and again that he is that type of person.

Senator Akaka's successful initiatives include reparations for Japanese-American internees unjustly interned during World War II, the Apology Resolution which acknowledged the illegality of the United States overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawai??€™i, and funding for Hawai??€˜i's juvenile justice information system. Moreover, Senator Akaka has staunchly defended the rights of consumers, supported balanced immigration legislation that does not unduly burden or penalize immigrants, opposed the extension of the Patriot Act due to its impact on civil liberties, and, unlike his opponent, consistently supported federal funding for the Legal Services Corporation. We invite you to visit Senator Akaka's web site at www.akaka2006.org to learn more about his qualifications and his positions on various issues.

We urge you to vote for Senator Akaka in the upcoming September primary. In addition, we are enclosing a pledge card and return envelope if you can help financially support his candidacy. Equally important, the envelope contains a space for you to volunteer for the campaign. Regardless of whether you can make a financial contribution or volunteer, however, we hope that you will consider returning Dan Akaka, a true man of justice, to the United States Senate.

Mahalo for your consideration.

Very truly yours,
